I use traditional landscape motives and compositional devices as the framework for contemporary fresco painting and oil on panel.
I create paintings in series. In the recent work each panel is complete in itself, but is also part of a sequence of images that create a narrative of abstract form and color. The small size of each panel, 10" x 8", can be compared to the intimacy of looking at a single illuminated manuscript page or the small sequential scenes at the bottom of an Early Renaissance altarpiece, the predella. The grouping of several panels can be read individually and in relation to the other panels.
An image of one of my frescoes will be featured in the technique section of the 3rd edition of "Gateway to the Arts" the leading art appreciation textbook used in colleges and advanced placement courses, Published by Thames & Hudson. (fall 2018) In the fall I will be presenting hands-on fresco workshops at colleges.
In 2014 I moved from Long Island City, NY to Deerfield Beach, Florida.. My paintings have been exhibited in solo and group exhibits in New York, Maryland, Maine and Washington, D.C. And i have created fresco mural for public and private commissions in California, New York and Maine.
